SUNDAY,
SEPT 15:
Another
lovely day. Drove back on the highway
which brought us here, to get a better, leisurely look at Bear Glacier and
other views along the road. What a
gorgeous drive! We didn’t really take
that much notice of it when we were driving in on Friday – concentrating too
much on getting to the campsite, I guess.
At any rate, it’s nicknamed “Glacier Highway” for obvious reasons. Spent about 3 hours reveling in this 40-mile
(1 way) drive.
When we got
back, Bill went into Hyder to fish. I
stayed behind to read and rest.
Positioned a Jonathan chair outside in the sun, and was soon lulled by
the sun’s warmth into a luxurious nap.
The
fisherman returned after a couple of hours.
No luck this time; still some salmon running, but not enough where you
could just cast out and snag them, like he did in Valdez.
Went into
town for a casual dinner. A nice small
town homey café. There was an
autographed picture of Robin Williams on one of the walls. The movie “Insomnia,” starring him, was
filmed here. I think I read that a cabin
was constructed at the base of the lake by Bear Glacier for the movie. We’ll need to rent that when we get
home. While we were inside, we saw that
it was raining – that was a surprise!
Wonder if it will continue into tomorrow.
