TUESDAY,
SEPT 17:
Left shortly after 8:00. A beautiful cool, partly sunny morning. This is another lovely RV park, with
wonderful landscaping and terrific owners . . .
too bad it’s not in a more scenic place.
About 90 minutes later we came through
Prince George. Stopped at the RV dealership
there to get some replacement light bulbs.
About 2:00 stopped at McBride, a nice
little town getting closer to the
Alberta border. We stopped there for gas
and got some lunch. Hadn’t had any
breakfast, so we were pretty hungry!
Soon we got into mountain terrain
again. The Canadian Rockies! Beautiful.
Had wonderful views of Mt Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian
Rockies.
Soon entered Jasper
National Park. We’ll only stay the night
here, as we’re driving down to Banff tomorrow to meet Loretta & Steve. (Loretta is my dear college friend – the one
good friend from that era I’ve kept all these years!) They’re flying into Calgary from L.A.
tomorrow – should get settled in their hotel by late afternoon. We’ll drive down, get settled in our RV site
and call them & see when they want to get together. They’ll be here for 10 days total, dividing
time between Banff & Jasper. We’re
not sure how long we’ll stay – for several days, anyway, to spend time with
them and explore these two gorgeous Canadian National Parks.
Here at Jasper, we drove into the only
camping ground which has full hook-up’s, and they were full. Couldn’t believe it! Haven’t been at any campground for several
weeks which looked anywhere near full.
So they directed us to another nearby campground which has electric only
in their overflow parking area. Which
was fine for just one night. Still
beautiful surroundings, and close enough
to the wilderness that 3 female elk were grazing right up to the edge of the
asphalt, totally unconcerned about any human presence.
