MONDAY,
JUNE 3:
Like
yesterday, the morning started off cloudy & overcast, but started breaking
up by mid-morning. And it stayed that
way all day – a beautiful day, mostly sunny.
We learned later that these nice days we’ve been experiencing since
we’ve been here in Prince Rupert are definitely the exception – it rains here
almost as much as in Ketchikan. So we
were definitely blessed with a gift!
At any
rate, we took advantage of the lovely morning by walking down to the ferry
terminal again. The folks there were
very, very friendly and helpful. As we
suspected, they were near or at their limit on vehicles for Tuesday’s sailing,
and couldn’t book us guaranteed space.
But they said that we’d be first on the Wait List, and relayed that
often the first 2 or 3 customers on the Wait List get on. However, we’d need to bring the truck &
RV in for them to measure. So, that
meant disengaging the RV from its hook-ups and buttoning it up, and hooking it
back up to the truck and driving it down there.
So Bill did that while Pappy and I basked in the sun on the picnic
table.
When he
returned, we took the optimistic approach that we’d get on tomorrow, and so
didn’t unhook the truck again. Which
meant that we couldn’t really go anywhere that afternoon. But that was ok – I brought out one of
Jonathan’s chairs (I guess that’s their permanent designated name now), and
read for several hours outside, just savoring the warmth of the sun and the
delightful northern feel of the air and scents in the air.
Ate potato soup indoors, as again, a
little too cool to enjoy eating outside.
But after dinner, we took Pappy out for a long walk around the
campground and down the trail we discovered yesterday. Met a guy named Mike at the trailhead, and
got into a nice friendly conversation with him about several things, including
the similarities between the U.S. and Canada (he’s Canadian – I think from
Alberta) in their political scandals.
Also about the “younger generation” and how different they are from
us. Now surely that’s a brand new
concept – one never heard before!
