THURSDAY,
JUNE 13:
For the first time since we’ve been here, it was
overcast this morning. Cooler than it’s
been, as well. It was a good morning to
just stay inside, read, and relax as we waited for the library to open at 1:00
so that we could use their internet connection.
The library here is only open for a couple of hours in the morning 3
days a week (9-12), then re-opens every day at 1:00 til 5:00. Then closes again til 7:00. And not open at all on Sundays (but neither
is anything else in town.) The schedule
seems to be worked around the lunch and dinner hours. Sounds like Mayberry. And actually, the librarian said to us that
Mayberry is exactly what Wrangell is like.
From what we’ve observed & experienced, we’d say she’s right!
Didn’t
get everything done that we felt we needed to (which required the Internet)
during the afternoon, when the battery on the laptop went out. So we left, ate an early dinner at home, and
read til the library opened back up.
Then finished up there. We’ll
probably go back one more time before we leave here, as I didn’t get to most of
my e-mail’s, just the blog and some banking.
The
clouds broke up some later in the day, but not as clear as it’s been, and
definitely cooler all day. Hope it
warms back up some – would like to do take the kayaks out again.
Finished reading The
Burgess Boys by Elizabeth Strout (author of Olive Kitteridge). Exquisite
writing, with themes of the irresistible and irrevocable draw of family ties,
of how multi-faceted every human is, and
how much we can really ever know another person’s soul - even those closest to us.

Hi! Unfortunately, we can't get sound on our laptop any more. But we can get it back home on our desktop, so we'll definitely save the link to Lupe's recital and watch it then. It will be our homecoming treat!
DeleteTrust that you're all doing well. What date is baby due?
