SUNDAY,
AUG 11:
Left
Palmer around 11:00. Rain started again
last night, and rained all day, all the way down to Seward, and
continued after we got there and on into the night. This is supposed to be a very scenic, beautiful
stretch of road, starting with just south of Anchorage along the Turnagain Arm
and then the Seward Hwy, with several nice spots along the way to stop and see
things of interest. However, it was so
rainy and murky we couldn’t see anything.
Surely hope that we have another chance to see this highway as it should
be seen!
We found the RV Park without any
trouble. It’s the only decent one in the
area, according to reviews. But unless
you pay extra for a creek site, as we did, it doesn’t look that great – just
another parking lot, with no trees or vegetation separating the sites. However, we have a primo location – supposedly creekside, although the creek/river is 30
yards away. But we have a whole expanse
of grass and trees between us and the river – with nice picnic tables. It’s like our own huge back yard. Definitely worth paying $2 or $3 extra a
night!
We decided that we’ll spend 5 nights here. The weather is supposed to clear some
beginning Monday afternoon, through Thursday.
We have a Kenai Fjords cruise booked for Tuesday, and a Prince William
Sound cruise for Thursday, up in Whittier.
That will give us all day Wednesday to take advantage of decent weather
down here on the eastern shore of the Kenai Peninsula.
